Bubbles will be flying across the city this month, as corks start popping for the first ever Festival of Prosecco.
The highly anticipated event, which is being run in association with Tindal Wine Merchants and the Perlage Winery in Italy, will kick off this week in Cork. The festival will be hosted across The Metropole Hotel, Cork International Hotel and The Bluehaven Kinsale throughout the month of May. Many events are already sold-out, with a limited number of tickets available for some events over the month.
Events will include masterclasses on how Prosecco is made and where it comes from, a Prosecco cocktail making class, a Prosecco Supper Club and a tasting event.
Organiser of the Festival of Prosecco, Sandra Murphy of Trigon Hotels said:
“We are delighted to host the first ever Festival of Prosecco, in association with Tindal Wine Merchants and the Perlage Winery in Italy across our three hotels. We have had a fantastic reaction to the festival and many events are already sold-out. The events will bring a boost for tourism in the city, as we are seeing significant interest from people from all around Ireland who wish to attend. In addition to tasting some wonderful Prosecco over the month, there will also be so much to learn at the masterclasses such as how Prosecco is made and where it comes from.”
As part of the festival there will be a number of events and masterclasses over the month, such as ‘The History of Prosecco’ on Friday 10th May, which will take place at The Metropole Hotel. This event, held in association with Tindal Wine Merchants will look at where Prosecco comes from and how it is made. Guests will be welcomed with a Prosecco cocktail before tasting their way through four different types of Prosecco from the Perlage winery located in the Veneto region of Italy. Perlage is Italy’s first organic vineyard. On Friday 17th May, The Metropole Hotel will host a fun and interactive masterclass by two of their in-house mixologists. Cocktails will include the Bakewell Fizz and the MacCurtain Sweet.
The Cork International Hotel will have a prosecco station for the full month of May at their Sunday buffet and they will also have a special prosecco cocktail menu on offer for the month.
To conclude the festival, The Metropole Hotel will host the Prosecco Supper Club on Friday May 24th. This will include a bespoke four course meal with carefully prepared glasses of the finest Prosecco introduced by Elena Brugnera winemaker from the prestigious Perlage vineyard, Italy’s first Organic sparkling winery.
In addition to this, for the month of May, The Met Bar at Metropole Hotel will be offering flights of prosecco (three glasses for €15).
